From July 1, 2025, winter tires will become mandatory in Denmark
From July 1, 2025, a new law will come into effect in Denmark: all cars must have winter or all-season tires with the 3PMSF symbol when there are winter conditions.
If you drive with summer tires in snow, ice or sleet, you risk a fine of DKK 1,000 per tire – and in the worst case, losing control of the car.

What significance does the new legislation have for you?
The new law requires that:
- Summer tires must not be used when there is snow, ice, sleet or frost on the road.
- The tires must be marked with 3PMSF (Three Peak Mountain Snowflake) – the official winter tire mark.
- Tires with only M+S markings are no longer legal after 2025 (with certain transitional rules until 2027).
- The tread depth must be at least 3 mm on your winter tires.
💡 Tip: Check the side of your tire – if you see the symbol with a small mountain and snowflake, it is approved as a winter tire.

When the temperature drops below 7 degrees, summer tires become hard and lose grip.
